ALLENDALE, Michigan (May 22, 2015) – For the third consecutive season, senior
Tabor Stevens walked away as the NCAA Division II national champion in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Stevens garnered 10 points for the Adams State University men with a time of 8:44.40.
Jackson Sayler also reached the podium by taking sixth in the event at 8:53.65. Together the duo placed ASU on the board with 13 points going into the final day of competition.
Oliver Aitchison also shined for the Adams State men in his outdoor championship debut by taking third in the 800m prelims with a time of 1:49.55.
Jurgen Themen rounded out performers for the ASU men in the 200m dash. Unfortunately for Themen, he was disqualified and did not record a time in the event.
Heather Scheetz registered the first points of the meet for the ASU women with her fifth place finish in the discus. Scheetz's distance of 49.94m established a new personal-best en route to claiming All-American status.
Later in the day
Sunayna Wahi continued her strong championship performance with a fifth place mark in the 200m dash prelims. Her new personal-best time of 23.92 moves her into Saturday's afternoon finals.
Chante Roberts followed by qualifying for the 800m finals. Her time of 2:07.32 was third overall and less than a second behind the first place runner.
Serena Canegan wrapped up her participation in the hepthathlon with Friday's long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. Canegan took third in the long jump (5.66m), 16th in the 800m run (2:33.43), and 17th in the javelin (29.25m). Canegan tallied a total of 5,034 points to take ninth place overall.
Maura O'Brien concluded Friday's competition for the ASU women with a sixth place mark in the 3000m steeplechase finals. The sophomore clocked a time of 10:26.31 to obliterate her previous personal-best time of 11:00.12 which she obtained two weeks ago.
