Golden, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies capped off the final day of competition at the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with two school records and two RMAC titles.
Day 3 got off to an exciting start as Lauren Ocampo broke a 17-year-old record in the women's javelin, finishing in second place with a NCAA Provisional mark. Ocampo's throw of 43.82 meters shattered the previous record by more than a meter, with all but one of her throws surpassing the old mark.
In the men's shot put, Sam Dirkes earned third place with a throw of 17.48 meters, setting a new personal record for the 2025 outdoor season and boosting his standing on the NCAA qualifying list.
The track events kicked off with the women's 1500m finals, where Fiona Hawkins finished sixth and Clara Keddy took eighth, running times of 4:41.23 and 4:43.72, respectively.
Alese Sartain dominated the women's 400m dash, winning first place and setting a new facility record with a time of 54.34 seconds. Sartain broke a facility record that had stood since 2018.
Keddy returned to the track in the women's 800m final, where she finished fifth with a time of 2:20.21. On the men's side, Oisin Lynch placed seventh in the men's 800m with a time of 1:55.33.
Chris Rader brought home sixth place in the 100m final, where he ran a time of 10.62 seconds.
Victoria Amiadamen rounded out the day's track performances with an eighth-place finish in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 1:18.40.
In the women's 200m dash final, Isila Apkup earned seventh place with a time of 24.53 seconds. Meanwhile, Keirryse Simpson and Gavin Heyneman claimed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the men's 200m with times of 21.15 and 21.23 seconds.
The Grizzlies' women's 4x400m relay team—Alese Sartain, Jessica Simon, Isila Apkup, and Lieke Hoogsteen—claimed the second RMAC gold medal and school record of the day. They finished in 3:39.15, setting a new school, facility, and RMAC Championship meet record, finishing seven seconds ahead of the second-place team.
In the final event of the championships, the men's 4x400m relay team of David Cardenas, Keirryse Simpson, Ja'Warren Smith, and Gavin Heyneman finished third with a time of 3:11.97, just 0.6 seconds behind first place.
The Adams State women's team finished in seventh place with 41 points, while the men's team placed tenth with 30 points.
The Grizzlies now turn their focus to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, with several athletes aiming to secure qualifying spots in the next two weeks through last-chance meets. The national championship will take place at CSU Pueblo over Memorial Day weekend.
