Oliver Aitchison and
Tabor Stevens highlighted Adams State University's efforts on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships by claiming a pair of national titles.
Stevens—coming off a Friday title in the 3000 meter steeplechase – claimed another title in the 5000m while Aitchison did the same in the 1500m.
Stevens capped off his illustrious ASU career with a first place time of 14:14.42 in the 5000m. The senior crossed the finish line four seconds ahead of the second place finisher to add 10 points for the ASU men. Meanwhile Aitchison shined in the 1500m with a mark of 3:45.92 for his first outdoor title. The freshman added a seventh place tally in the 800m run at 1:50.87.
Their suburb efforts propelled the ASU men to a fifth place tie at the championships with 40 points.
Also adding points for the ASU men was
Jurgen Themen who took fourth in the 100m dash at 10.42. Senior
Matt Daniels clocked a ninth place time of 14:37.79 in the 5000m run.
Unfortunately
Zach Baxter was unable to record a mark in the men's shot put by virtue of a foul on his attempts.
Chante Roberts led the ASU women in the 800m by taking third at 2:06.35. Roberts' efforts helped the ASU women notch a total of 16 points in the championships to tie for 15
th.
Sunayna Wahi grabbed an eighth place finish in the 100m finals with a time of 11.71. She also added points in the 200m finals with a seventh place mark of 23.60.
Maura O'Brien took 12
th in the 5000m run at 17:12.11 followed by
Jenna Thurman in 16
th at 17:20.24.
With 59 points the Central Missouri women secured a team championship as the St. Augustine's men accomplished the same feat by collecting 53 points during the three day meet. Â
