WBB | Hot-Shooting Griffins Hand Grizzlies 76-54 Defeat

SALT LAKE CITY (January 15, 2016)—Adams State University lost on the road Friday in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match-up against Westminster College by a 76-54 score. With Friday's results, the Grizzlies have lost six consecutive games.

The Grizzlies (2-11, 1-9 RMAC) were offensively paced by Lena Jaycox who scored 13 points off 4-of-13 shooting. Jaycox also led the team in rebounds, picking up four defensive boards against the Griffins.  Since Jaycox's career-high 28 points against Western State Colorado University on December 18th, the junior has scored in double digits during the last six games for the Grizzlies.

The Griffins used a strong defensive game plan to ensure a home victory against the Grizzlies. A stifling defensive presence inside the three-point line restricted Adams State from running their offense and limited second chance opportunities.  Westminster's fifth-ranked defense in the RMAC was in full display and it reflected the most on the glass. Of the Griffins 41 rebounds, 32 were defensive. They also limited ASU to shoot just 32.1 percent from the field. Outside of Jaycox, the Grizzlies had trouble getting anything going offensively. The next highest scorers were Cydney McHenry and Lauren McDonald who posted seven points each.

For Westminster, Denise Gonzales led the team with 16 points. As a team, the Griffins converted 62.5 (10-16) percent off their shots from beyond the three-point line and had three other players score in the double-digits outside of Gonzales. The Griffins led by as many as 38 points in Friday's game and never trailed from start to finish.

The Grizzlies will play next on Saturday, January 16 against Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. The game is slated for a 5:30 tip-off. Live coverage will be accessible for fans by following www.asugrizzlies.com .
