ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 29, 2016) – Behind the efforts of
Shakir Smith,
Kendyl Grover, and a season-high shooting clip of 60 percent; Adams State University handed Chadron State College a 94-78 defeat on Friday Night.
Excluding the opening minutes, the Grizzlies (9-10, 8-6 RMAC) never trailed and led the Eagles by as much as 21 points. The Eagles (6-12, 4-10 RMAC) were the victim of a hot-shooting Grizzly unit who notched 47 points on the scoreboard in each half. The balanced scoring affair was the result of the aforementioned 60 percent (33-55) shooting mark. ASU also recorded a season-high 8 blocks on the night while holding their opponent to under 80 points for the first time since facing Westminster College on Jan. 15.
Smith and Grover had their way with the Eagles by tallying 28 and 21 points, respectively. Smith added 3 assists and 3 steals while Grover finished a rebound shy of grabbing his fourth double-double of the season. Joining the duo in double figures was teammate
Joe Bell Austin with 15 points—9 of which came after halftime.
Defensively the Grizzlies limited their opponent to a mere 28 points at the break as the Eagles finished the game shooting a pedestrian 39.7 percent (29-73) from the field. Warren Gordon paced Chadron State with 18 points in a losing effort.
