LAKEWOOD, Colo. (October 16
th, 2016) --- The men's soccer losing streak is officially over. The Grizzlies defeated Colorado Christian 3-2 in double overtime this afternoon.
CCU scored first with a successful penalty kick.
Symon Fabbricatore added to his career goal record that he broke earlier this season with a header in the second half to tie things up 1-1.
Josue Murillo then scored to give Adams the lead, but was answered less than 3 minutes later by CCU's Christian Redin. After a scoreless 1
st overtime, the teams headed to a 2
nd. Just when it looked like the 2
nd overtime would be scoreless as well,
Carlos Castro scored with 0.4 of a second left to give the Grizzlies the win.
Coach Bentley had this to say: "Very pleased to get this result especially considering the stretch of games we've been on. The guys have been working incredibly hard so I'm pleased that they got rewarded for that today. However, this game was a great example of our season, we had moments of brilliance followed by a mental lapse which resulted in goals against. Most importantly though we continue to see great improvements and our 32 shots is evidence of this. Very proud of the guys for how well they played and grinded out this win.
The win makes Adams 5-9 on the year which is only 1 away from tying the school record for wins in a season. The loss drops Colorado Christian to 1-13.
Up next, the Grizzlies return to Alamosa on October 21
st to host the Colorado School of Mines, a team that they lost to 1-4 just 2 days ago. Start time is set for 3:00pm.
