ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 29, 2016) – Despite three consecutive timeouts in an effort to ice the kicker, Dixie State University's Anthony Reyes made good of his 21-yard field goal attempt as time expired to send Adams State University to a 24-21 defeat on Senior Day.
The game-winning drive began with 36-seconds remaining as the Trailblazers (5-4, 5-3 RMAC) picked up two big running plays from Dejon Coleman that pinned the Adams State (1-7, 1-7 RMAC) defense inside the red zone.
Coleman burst through the middle for an 18-yard gain to the ASU 4-yard line with one second remaining to set up the game-winning field goal.
Prior to that, Adams State had an opportunity to notch the go-ahead score with a drive starting at their own 37-yard line with 1:21 remaining in the fourth. 
Jorge Hernandez linked up with 
Phil Romero for a 14-yard gain on the first play to near midfield. Two plays later Hernandez found 
Corey Brown for a 29-yard reception but the play was called back due to offensive pass interference. The bad break halted any momentum as 
Zach Cimaglia was brought in three plays later to punt.
Preceding the dramatic fourth quarter finish was a solid start from Adams State as 
Demari Reynolds picked off Dixie State's Josh Thompson in the first quarter. Reynolds ultimately went the distance for a 63-yard pick-six to position Adams State with an early 7-0 lead.
The score remained 7-0 until Dixie State produced a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 14-7 halftime lead.
After a scoreless third stanza, the Grizzlies tied the conference tilt thanks to a two-yard touchdown reception by 
Addie Brown. The tie was short-lived as Dixie State responded with a five play, 29-yard touchdown drive. The drive began after a 56-yard kickoff return that positioned the Dixie State offense at the Adams State 29-yard line.
It was then Adams State's turn to pull through with an impressive drive to tie the game at 21-21. The Grizzlies easily moved the ball down the field with key passes to 
Corey Brown and 
Phil Romero. Brown pulled in a 20-yard reception on the opening play of the drive as Romero forced his will with a 40 and 14-yard reception on back-to-back plays. 
Darvin McCauley soon reached paydirt with a three-yard touchdown pass from Hernandez.
Hernandez produced his fourth consecutive game of eclipsing 300 passing yards. Against Dixie State, the junior went 30-of-52 for 330 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Romero hauled in a game-high 146 receiving yards on nine receptions. The senior came through with a monster fourth quarter by totaling five receptions for 113 yards. 
Corey Brown posted 10 receptions for 72 yards along with 53 yards on the ground off of 12 carries.
Wesley Brandon finished with nine tackles as 
John Reed, 
Tim Brown Jr., 
Morris Gilbert, and 
John Land each chipped in eight tackles apiece. 
Qwashioan Warren was busy on the day with seven tackles and one sack. Reynolds concluded the day with three tackles and one interception.
With the 2016 home slate now over, the Grizzlies wrap up the season with back-to-back road games. First up is a meeting with Colorado School of Mines on Nov. 5
th from Golden. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
