WICHITA FALLS, Texas. (November 13th, 2016) --- The Adams State University women's basketball team lost a tight one last night against Texas Woman's University in the Ashbrook Classic on campus of Midwestern State University.
Adams trailed by only 3 points at halftime 27-30. The Grizzlies shot wonderfully from 3-point range in the 1
st half, shooting 75.0% from downtown.
Cydney McHenry and
Lejla Hadzialijagic combined for 13 points and 3 steals in the half. The team shot 43.5% through 2 periods.
A lower scoring 2
nd half belonged to the Pioneers. The Grizzlies were outscored 27-19 behind Alexis Nezianya's 10 points and 2 blocks.
Lauren McDonald, Maddy Merschel, and
Nicole Broyles-Mortensen each had 4 points in the half. In the end, TWU was too much and held on to win 57-46.
Cydney McHenry had 10 points on the night while
Lejla Hadzialijagic had 4 blocks. The team shot 41.7% from 3 for the game. The Grizzlies also had 14 second chance points. The Pioneers dominated the paint, scoring 32 of their 57 from down low.  Â
Cydney McHenry was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Coach L.J. had this to say: "I thought we played well for 3 out of 4 quarters, but you don't win without playing a full game. Hopefully we learned some lessons that will help us down the road."
The Pioneers improve to 2-0 on the season. Adams drops to 0-3 with the loss.
The Grizzlies have a rematch at Northern New Mexico College on November 16
th at 7:00pm for their next game. The Eagles won the November 2
nd meeting 82-54.
