WBB| Texas Woman's University Outlasts Adams

WICHITA FALLS, Texas. (November 13th, 2016) --- The Adams State University women's basketball team lost a tight one last night against Texas Woman's University in the Ashbrook Classic on campus of Midwestern State University.

Adams trailed by only 3 points at halftime 27-30. The Grizzlies shot wonderfully from 3-point range in the 1st half, shooting 75.0% from downtown. Cydney McHenry and Lejla Hadzialijagic combined for 13 points and 3 steals in the half. The team shot 43.5% through 2 periods.

A lower scoring 2nd half belonged to the Pioneers. The Grizzlies were outscored 27-19 behind Alexis Nezianya's 10 points and 2 blocks. Lauren McDonald, Maddy Merschel, and Nicole Broyles-Mortensen each had 4 points in the half. In the end, TWU was too much and held on to win 57-46.

Cydney McHenry had 10 points on the night while Lejla Hadzialijagic had 4 blocks. The team shot 41.7% from 3 for the game. The Grizzlies also had 14 second chance points. The Pioneers dominated the paint, scoring 32 of their 57 from down low.    

Cydney McHenry was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Coach L.J. had this to say: "I thought we played well for 3 out of 4 quarters, but you don't win without playing a full game. Hopefully we learned some lessons that will help us down the road."

The Pioneers improve to 2-0 on the season. Adams drops to 0-3 with the loss.

The Grizzlies have a rematch at Northern New Mexico College on November 16th at 7:00pm for their next game. The Eagles won the November 2nd meeting 82-54.
