Espanola, N.M. (November 16th, 2016) --- The Adams State women's basketball got their revenge tonight in a rematch against Northern New Mexico College by a score of 52-47.
The two teams met previously on November 2
nd with the Eagles pulling off an 82-54 upset in Alamosa. This time around however, it was the Grizzlies who would spoil the home team.
In a low scoring 1
st period, the 2 teams combined for only 12 points. Adams displayed great defense as they led at the end of the 1
st by a 9-3 score. Northern New Mexico would outscore the Grizzlies 12-11 in the 2
nd period but still trailed 20-15 at the half. After a 22 point 3
rd period, the Eagles were able to tie the game 37-37 heading into the 4
th. Refusing to accept another loss to the Eagles, the Grizzlies outscored NNMC 15-10 in the final period to win their 1
st game of the year 52-47.
Lejla Hadzialijagic connected from 3-point range 3 times tonight on her way to 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Cydney McHenry added 8 points and 4 assists.
Brianna Reyna owned the boards for the Grizzlies, grabbing 5 offensive and 4 defensive rebounds, while adding 7 points. The 2
nd leading scorer tonight was
DeShea Wilkes, with 9.
Coach L.J. had this to say: "I think we came out with an attitude to win. Our effort was good all night, especially when they took the lead."
Next up, the Grizzlies hit the road for a pair of exhibition games against Wyoming and Colorado State. Those games will be on November 22nd at 6:30pm, and November 23rd at 2:30pm respectively.   Â
