ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 2
nd, 2016) --- The Adams State women's basketball team opened their season at home tonight against Northern New Mexico College with an 82-54 loss.
Despite opening the year against an NAIA team, the Grizzlies were unable to keep pace with the Eagles as they fell behind 24-10 early in the second period. Later in the same period, a
Cydney McHenry three pointer cut the deficit to 5 and there was a glimmer hope. Unfortunately, that was as close as ASU would get, as they would go on to lose by 28 points.
Brianna Reyna led the team with 14 points, while
Cydney McHenry added another 13. Demetria Clichee paced the Eagles with a game-high 18 points.Â
The Grizzlies shot 24.2 percent from the field as the Eagles shot 44.4 percent. The Eagles relied heavily on the deep ball by shooting 8-of-22 on three pointers. Northern New Mexico also held the edge on the boards by a 52-38 margin.
The loss starts Adams State off at 0-1. The win for NNMC improves them to 3-0 on the year.
Next for the Grizzlies is a trip to Texas to take part in the Midwestern State Tournament, Nov. 11-12.
