GUNNISON, Colo. (December 10th, 2016) --- The Adams State Women's Basketball Team lost a heartbreaker on the road against Western State tonight 39-41.

In the first,
Lauren McDonald would hit a 3 pointer put the Grizzlies ahead 6-0 to start the game. Adams would hold the lead for the rest of the first, leading 8-4 after 1.

The Grizzlies kept the pedal to the floor in the second and outscored the Mountaineers 14-10 in the second. ASU never trailed in the game going into the half.

Western would come surging back in the third on a 17-11 run to take the lead 33-31 at the end of 3.

The fourth quarter was neck and neck all the way to the final buzzer. Midway through the quarter,
Cydney McHenry hit a jumper to cut the Western lead to 1. This forced the Mountaineers to burn a timeout. A few minutes later,
Nicole Broyles-Mortensen scored to put the Grizzlies up 37-36. With only a minute remaining,
DeShea Wilkes scored on a layup to put the Grizzlies in a winning position at 39-38. Several turnovers later, the Mountaineers paced down the court and heaved a 3 point shot that fell with only 2 seconds remaining in the game. The Grizzlies could not throw up a miracle of their own, and fell to Western 39-41.

DeShea Wilkes put in 9 points and recorded 3 rebounds in the losing effort. The Mountaineers won the rebounding battle 46-35 and shot 5% better from the field. Â

Coach Hunt had this to say: "The ladies played hard tonight. It was the attention to detail at the end of the game that cost us. We have to be smarter down the stretch."
