LAKEWOOD, Colo. (December 30, 2016) – Junior
Brandon Sly posted a team-high 27 points on Friday night as Adams State University fell to Colorado Christian University, 110-101.
Brett Brady led the Cougars (9-4, 6-1 RMAC) with 27 points on a night that saw Adams State (5-8, 2-5 RMAC) tie their single-game scoring mark of 101 (Nov. 22
nd vs. Northern New Mexico).
The Grizzlies cut a 14-point deficit down to 4 late in the game thanks to a
Jarrett Givens layup with 1:17 remaining. The Grizzlies were able to cut the lead to 4 multiple times moving forward but the Cougars went 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the final minute to secure the conference win.
Adams State trailed just 41-40 at halftime but Colorado Christian caught fire in the second stanza by shooting 64.8 percent (24-37) from the field to help the Cougars build their largest lead of 14.
31 personal fouls from each team led to ample opportunities at the charity stripe as the Grizzlies went 31-of-42 (73.8 percent). The high foul count resulted in
Ethan Caton,
Shane Johnson,
Bryan Umoru, and
Brandon Pasker each fouling out of the game. Jacob Taylor was the lone Cougar to foul out of the game.
The Cougars knocked down 12 three-pointers with Brady and Andrew Lane combining for 9 three's.
27 points highlighted a well-rounded game for Sly who also finished with 8 rebounds and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. The junior added 1 steal and did not have a turnover. Givens provided 24 points with 22 coming in the second half. Pasker recorded his third double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Grizzlies finished with a 46-38 rebounding edge and held the advantage in second chance points (21-9) and bench points (35-25).
Adams State takes on Chadron State College tomorrow night at 6pm from Chadron, Nebraska.
