CANYON, Texas—The bats stayed cold again for Adams State University's softball team on Saturday, as they dropped two games. The Grizzlies dropped their first game 6-2 to Tarleton. They were then only able to muster one run in the afternoon game as Eastern New Mexico won the second game, 3-1.
In the opening game, Adams State jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Marissa Harmon singled to center field to bring
Kalin Johnson around to score.
Kelsi Kautz then scored another RBI on the season as she singled to shortstop to bring
April Riggins around for an unearned run after she advanced to second on a passed ball.
Things then went downhill for the Grizzlies as Tarleton scored six unanswered runs, three coming in the bottom of the second, one in the bottom of the third and then two more in the bottom of the fifth.
In the game, Adams State had eight base hits with Johnson leading the way with three. Kacee Schroder was tabbed with her second loss of the season as she allowed all six runs, only three of which were earned, on nine hits and one walk. She tallied five strikeouts on the game.
In the second game, Eastern New Mexico jumped out to a three run lead as they scored a single run in the top of the first and two in the top of the third. Adams' only run came in the bottom of the third as Johnson singled to left field to allow
Sheridan VanHoose to score.
Adams State will finish out their weekend on Valentine's Day as they play Midwestern State University at 10:30 a.m. (MT) and then they play West Texas A&M at 3 p.m. (MT).
