COLORADO SPRINGS (February 24, 2016) – Costly errors from Adams State University allowed Air Force to open the floodgates and claim a 13-1 win in a non-conference affair on Wednesday afternoon.
After a 1-2-3 first inning for starter
Josh Keaton, the Grizzlies ran into trouble in the second as the Falcons tacked on four runs. Air Force added a five-run fifth before the Grizzlies were able to produce their lone run of the game in the sixth. The Falcons went on to produce two runs in the bottom of the frame and an additional two in the eighth.
The Grizzlies were limited to a pair of hits on the day from
Nico Porreco and
Michael Downs. The aforementioned duo worked together in the sixth to help put ASU on the board. Porreco led the inning with a single up the middle as Downs followed with a single to third. A wild throw on the play allowed both to move into scoring position as
Tyler Thurston then added a RBI groundout to score Porreco from third.
Despite picking up the loss, Keaton struck out five in 4.0 innings of work. The junior allowed four runs but only one of which was earned.
Luke Bradshaw,
Ty Gavin,
Dillon Gaasbeck, and
Dylan Sherry also pitched for ASU as Air Force emptied their bullpen as well by utilized six pitchers.
The Grizzlies remain on the road this weekend for a three game series against Eastern New Mexico University. First pitch is set for 12pm on Feb. 27
