SB| Homers lift Grizzlies to sweep, win streak swells to six

LAKEWOOD-A total of four home runs helped the Adams State University softball team come away with a Saturday sweep of the Colorado Christian University Cougars on Saturday at Lakewood Park as they got a 6-3 win before nabbing a 5-3 win.

The Grizzlies had three homers in the first game before getting a homer in the second game to see their win streak swell to six. The Grizzlies improve to 10-16 overall and 8-6 in Rocky Mountain Atheltic Conference while Colorado Christian is 5-19 overall and 4-10 in RMAC play.

The two teams will close out the 4-game series on Sunday starting at noon.

On Saturday, Colorado Christian scored the opening run in the bottom of the first inning before Tyler Hayes nailed the day's first homer in the top of the second to tie the game.

After a scoreless bottom of the second inning, Colorado Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning but again Adams State saw the long bomb come into play as Marissa Harman hit a liner over the right field line in the top of the third before Sheridan VanHoose hit a homer to right field to tie the game.

The 3-3 stalemate lasted until the top of the seventh inning in which Gabrielle Griego had a ground rule double to score VanHoose before Harmon tripled to right field to score Griego and Paige Reichmuth.

In the game, Adams State gathered 11 hits and had one fielding error while Colorado Christian only had six hits.

Lauren Murphy was the winning pitcher for the Grizzlies as she had a complete game and allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks. She had five strikeouts.

In the second game, the two teams traded 2 runs each, as Adams State scored two, with Harmon getting an RBI single through the right side wihile Hays tripled to left field scoring Harmon.

Adams State took the lead in the second as a double steal was successful with Kalin John second Jasmine Pemble stole home.

After allowing CCU to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, Adams State closed the door when Pemble reached on a sac bunt error that saw Alex Quintana score from third. Harmon then really put an exclimation point on the day in the top of the seventh with her second homer of the game.

Adams State had eight hits in the second gamme as Kaitlin Hoffman got her second win.
