ALAMOSA—The Adams State University Softball Team was unable to overcome the hot bats of Chadron State as the Eagles swept the Grizzlies with scores of 8-4 and 11-4.
In the opening game pitching did not come out strong. After scoring the game's first three runs, including one on a stolen base, a
Cheyenne Hamilton triple and a single from
Sheridan VanHoose, the Eagles battled back and to tie the game in the top of the third inning in a 3-run blast.
They then scored three runs in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth and despite a sixth inning single from
April Riggins, Adams State couldn't overcome the pitching by the Eagles.
In the second game, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Adams State chipped into the lead in the bottom of the first with a single run.
After allowing two unearned runs in the top of the third inning,
Jasmine Pemble was close to hitting an inside the park home run but hesitation at third base gave her the triple but she did decide to head home and scored. The Grizzlies scored one more in the inning as
Gabrielle Griego nailed a homer to right field.
After two scoreless inning, the Eagles scored again this time on a solo home run to right field. They scored another 3-run homer in the top of the seventh to close out the game.
The two teams will return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
