SB: Murphy gem leads Grizzlies to split with Eagles

ALAMOSA-After being swept in Saturday's Rocky Mountain Atheltic Conference doubleheader with the Chadron State Eagles, the Adams State University softball team came away from Sunday's contest with a split as they dropped the opening game 7-2 before Lauren Murphy took a no-hitter into the seventh inning to help the Grizzlies win the series finale with a 5-0 shutout.

Adams State, will be back in action with an Easter Weekend doubleheader on Friday and Saturday when  they host the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks. Friday's doubleheader is set to start at 12 p.m.

The Grizzlies started the first game off on the right foot as a 2-out double through the left side drove in a run for Marissa Harmon to put ASU up 1-0. But the Eagles retaliated in the same fashion with a double with a runner on first to score and tie up the game in the top of second.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles scored another run on a 2-out double to take their first lead of the game. They added five runs in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run to lead off the inning followed by two 2-out 2-run double down the left field line.

Despite scoring one run in the sixth inning, Adams State was unable to overcome the hole they were in and fell.

In the second game Harmon nailed a solo home run in the bottom of the first to once again give ASU a 1-0 lead.

Adams State scored another single run in the bottom of the third  on a sacrifice fly before a 3-run bottom of the fourth inning saw Jasmine Pemble get two RBI on a double and Alex Quintana to hit a single to score another run.

The story of the second game was Murphy who had a no hitter into the seventh inning. She tossed 105 pitches as she only allowed two hits but got five strikeouts.
