Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WLAX| Baltzer-led Grizzlies unable to fend off Warriors

ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 7th, 2016)—On what was a rare Monday game day, the Adams State University Grizzlies women's lacrosse team hosted the Nyack College Warriors at the ASU Lacrosse field. Despite a surging Grizzly offense, Adams State was unable to overcome the Warriors as they fell 14-6.

The first half of play saw the Grizzlies' Jessica Hammer score the first goal of the game, off of an assist by Cynthia Perez, to give Adams State a 1-0 lead. However, the Warriors would counteract the goal, with their own to tie the game up at 1-1.
With 14:16 left in the first, Nyack would once again find the back of the Grizzly net to give themselves a 2-1 lead. They would then go on a 3 goal unanswered run to go up on the Grizzlies 5-1.

Alleah Baltzer would break the streak to score the Grizzlies' second goal of the contest, and cut Nyack's lead to 5-2., with just over five minutes before half time.

The Warriors would then give themselves a 7-2 lead heading into halftime.

Baltzer would draw the first blood of the second half with her second goal of the contest to once again cut down Nyack's lead to four goals at 7-3. Perez would then net her first goal of the season, to cut the deficit to 7-4.

The Grizzlies were unable to stop the Warriors as they extended their lead to 14-4 after going on a seven goal unanswered run, before Kendell Baylor found the back of the net for Adams State. This is also Baylor's first goal of the season.
With 5:36 left in the contest, Nyack would tack on another goal, but Kristin Rickard would answer right back with her goal at the 3:36 mark.

Unfortunately, Nyack would score the last goal of the game to get the victory over Adams State.

Out of the Grizzlies' twenty shots, eleven of those were on target. Alyse Mims finished the day with seven saves. In the battle for ground balls, Adams State edged Nyack 22-18. With the loss, the Grizzlies fall to 0-3 on the season.
Next up for Adams State is the start of a three-game road trip beginning on March 12th, when they travel to Colorado State University-Pueblo to take on their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rival the ThunderWolves. The game is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
