Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WLAX| Hammer hat-trick not enough as Grizzlies fall to Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (April 10th, 2016)—The Adams State University women's lacrosse team was in action earlier Sunday, as they traveled to Grand Junction to take on Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rivals, the Colorado Mesa University. The Grizzlies were unable to stop a plethora of Mavericks' goals, as they fell 22-7.

Just 1:49 into the first half, Colorado Mesa took an early 1-0 lead before they went on a 5-0 run before Samantha Hammer broke the streak with her goal off of an assist by Zena Manzaneres.

The Mavericks quickly counteracted that goal with another one of their own to take a 6-1 lead, but Kendra Cheda (unassisted) would then get it back with a goal of her own to cut the lead to 6-2.

With two more goals, Colorado Mesa would then extend their lead to 8-2, but Dayna Jarrell (assist Cheda) would then add another goal to cut the Mavericks' lead to five goals at 8-3.

With Colorado Mesa adding one more at the 11:15 mark, Cera Cyster would quickly counteract that goal less than two minutes later to make the score 9-4.

With the game in a back and forth battle, the Mavericks then added two more before Hammer netted her second goal of the game with 4:28 left before the half. Heading into halftime, the score would be 11-5.

The start of the second half saw Colorado Mesa add two more to their lead before Hammer scored a hat-trick to bring the score 13-6 with 23:48 left in the game. Two minutes later, Cheda would score her second of the game to bring Adams State to within six of the Mavericks.

Unfortunately, the Grizzlies couldn't keep the momentum up as Colorado Mesa then went on an eight-goal run to end the game.

Adams State goaltender, Alyse Mims, faced thirty-eight shots from the Mavericks. She ended the day with nine saves.

The Grizzlies return home on April 14th to take on the visiting Rockhurst University Hawks in an RMAC match-up. The game is set to start at 4:00 pm and live stats will be made available to fans by visiting www.asugrizzlies.com
