WLAX| Late surge not enough as Grizzlies fall to Hawks

ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 14th, 2016)— The Adams State University women's lacrosse team hosted the Rockhurst University Hawks on a blustery Thursday afternoon at the ASU Lacrosse field. Despite a late attempt to comeback, the Grizzlies were unable to stop a strong Hawks' offense, as they fell 18-9.

The first half of play got started when Rockhurst found the back of the net just over two minutes into play. They would then score another goal to go up 3-0 over Adams State.

The Hawks would then go on a 9-0 run to give themselves an 11-1 lead before Cera Cyster netted her first goal of the contest to give the Grizzlies their first goal of the game. Kendra Cheda then scored her first of the game (assist by Kristin Rickard) to put the score at 11-2, with 8:54 remaining before half time.
Rockhurst would then net another goal to go up 12-3, but Cynthia Perez would counteract that goal to cut the lead to 12-3. Cyster (assist Cheda) would then score her second of the game with 6:17 showing on the clock.

The Hawks then scored the last goal of the first half to put themselves up 13-3 heading into halftime.

Perez would then net her second goal of the game to cut Rockhurst's lead to 13-4, but after her goal Rockhurst would then go on a 3-0 run to go up 16-4 over Adams State, but Cyster would get a hat trick to put the score at 16-5.

Kates Raymond (assisted by Alleah Baltzer) would score the Grizzlies' sixth goal at the 15:57 mark of the half, but the Hawks would counteract that goal with two of their own.

Cheda would also end the day with a hat trick, as she scored back-to back goals for Adams State just a minute a part. Unfortunately this late surge was not enough for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies faced 27 shots from the Hawks, and made six saves on the day. Adams State tied with Rockhurst on clear attempts as each team ended the day with two each.

Adams State will return to the field on April 16th as they host Lindenwood University at 1:00 pm. Live stats and streaming of the game will be made available to fans by visiting www.asugrizzlies.com.
