ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 22, 2016)—The Adams State University Grizzlies hosted the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves on Senior Day earlier Friday, with Grizzly seniors
Kristine Hackett and
Qiana Barfield being honored in the pre-game ceremonies.
Despite fighting hard, Adams State was unable to get past a tough ThunderWolves squad, as they fell 20-10.
The first half of play saw CSU-P take an early 2-0 lead over the Grizzlies before
Jessica Hammer would cut the lead in half at the 24:20 mark.
Cynthia Perez, assisted by
Kendra Cheda, would tie the game up at 2-2, when she netted her first goal of the game.
While the ThunderWolves got the lead back with their goal at the 21:37 mark,
Kendell Baylor (assist Cheda), would once again tie the game up. Baylor netted her first goal of the game.
CSU-P would then go on a three goal run to take a 6-3 lead over Adams State, but Hammer would cut the lead back down to two, with her goal off of a woman-up opportunity.
The ThunderWolves would then extend their lead to 13-4 before Cheda (unassisted) would net her first goal of the game with 3:29
showing on the clock before halftime.
However, with just twenty-one seconds left on the clock, CSU-P would net the final goal of the first half to go up 14-5 going into halftime.
The second half of play saw Kristin Rickard score her first goal of the game just under a minute into the second, to bring the score to 14-6.
CSU-P then got that one back, but Hammer would earn a hat trick with her goal off of a free-position shot at the 25:23 mark of the half.
Cera Cyster would then net her first of the game, off of a free-position shot with 17:14 showing on the clock.
The ThunderWolves would get one goal back, before Cyster (assist Hammer), would score the final goal of the game.
Grizzly goaltenders
Alyse Mims and
Samantha Teti both saw action in Friday's game, where they made six saves on the day.
Despite a stellar performance by Baylor on draw controls, Adams State and CSU-P each earned sixteen draw controls.
The Grizzlies take on the Regis University Rangers on April 24
