ALAMOSA—The Adams State University Softball team came through and had a seven run inning to help salvage a split in Sunday's RMAC Pod Weekend action as they fell to Regis 7-3 before rebounding and getting a 10-3 win over University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in the bottom final game.
Adams State finishes the Pod weekend with a 3-1 record as they even up the RMAC record at 13-13. ASU will have a big 4-game series at Colorado State University-Pueblo this upcoming week with doubleheaders starting at 12 and 11, respectively.
In the first game, four errors came through and derailed ASU early as the Rangers scored four early runs, one in the first and three in the second. The Grizzlies cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from
Morgan Zanski but the Rangers battled back and got the run back in the top of the sixth on a double by Rachel Illias.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Harmon nailed a 2-run blast to deep center field to close within two runs but once again the Rangers closed out the game with two runs in the top of the seventh to get the win.
In the second game,
Tyler Hays got ASU on the board first as she had a 10-pitch at bat before she nailed a single to right field to score
Paige Reichmuth. UCCS battled back and scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning but ASU maintained constant pressure as
Gabrielle Griego nailed her tenth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Adams State then scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth as a dropped fly ball on a Harmon fly ball allowed Reichmuth to score before Griego tripled to clear the bases loaded jam.
Kelsi Kautz singled to score Griego before she came around to score on a Reichmuth single. Johnson then reached on another dropped fly ball to make the score 9-3.
Kautz had another sacrifice fly in the bottom of sixth inning to clear out the game.

Lauren Murphy, who nabbed three wins, all in relief for the Grizzlies. She came in and earned two wins in Saturday's 5-4 walk off win over UCCS before defeating Regis in the 6-5 9-inning bout. On Sunday, she pitched in both games but got a no decision in the 7-3 loss to Regis before picking up a win the 10-3 win over UCCS in the finale.
