ALAMOSA, Colo. (September 11th, 2016) – The men's soccer team tasted defeat for the first time this season this afternoon at the ASU Soccer Field.
Today's mostly defensive battle got the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals (1-3) their first win of the year as they won by a score of 1-0. A goal by Cody Graves of the Chaparrals at the 42:33 mark, put LCU on top. The Grizzlies (3-1) were unable to answer throughout the rest of the game. ASU did get off 4 more shots than their competitors, but were unable to capitalize.
Coach Bentley had this to say: "This game was a great learning lesson for us as we head into the conference season. We came out flat and gave away too much time today and that allowed a very talented LCU team to get into the game. We're a system driven team and when one guy is not doing his job by being mentally and physically ready to play, then things break down. I was pleased by our fight and relentless effort but we must be more clinical in the attacking third. When you out shoot and out corner the opponent you expect to get the result, but at the end of the day this loss will help to refocus us for a tough conference season ahead."
Next on this 4 game home stand is Regis University on September 16
th at 1:00pm at the ASU Soccer Field.
