ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 14th, 2017) --- The Adams State women's basketball team could not find any rhythm tonight against Black Hills State and lost a 68-48 contest.
Â
The Grizzlies fell behind 8-2 early in the game. A pair of
Karleigh Cooley free throws midway through the first would cut the deficit to 1. From there, Black Hills State would ride an 11-4 run to a 21-11 lead at the end of one. The second period battle would be closer, with the Yellowjackets outscoring the Grizzlies only 12-8. The halftime score was still unflattering as BHSU led Adams 33-19.
Â
In a hard fought third period, the Grizzlies and Yellowjackets both added 14 points to their total. Despite the effort, the Yellowjacket lead was still 14. Black Hills would fend off any further advances to take the game by 20 points.
Â
Adams State won the rebound battle by a pretty big margin 42-29. The reason this game was not much closer was likely due to the turnover margin. ASU set a new season high for turnovers in a game with 32 which Black Hills turned into 20 points.
Cydney McHenry had a great game offensively with 18 points to lead all Grizzlies. Maddy Merschel owned the boards with her 10 rebounds. Kassidy Scott led the Yellowjackets with 15 points.
Â
The team hosts another weekend double header next weekend. They will host Chadron State on Friday and Regis on Saturday.
