WBB| Grizzlies Unable To Upend Eagles Late

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 20th, 2017) --- The Adams State women's basketball team looked like they might snap their losing streak at times tonight in Alamosa against Chadron State. In the end, the win was not be. The Eagles would own the night by a final score of 78-66.

A closely contested first period ended in a 24-17 lead for Adams State. The Grizzlies added to their lead in the second after a DeShea Wilkes layup put the home team up by 8. Minutes later, the Eagles went on a 13-0 run to take a 40-34 lead. Chadron would ride that momentum into the half leading by 6. The Grizzlies would chip away at the deficit in the third getting the team within 3 on several occasions. Things took a big turn with only seconds left in the third period when Coach Larry Joe Hunt was hit with a technical foul following a Nicole Broyles-Mortensen foul on Kalli Feddersen's 3 point attempt. This frenzy allowed Fedderson to convert on 5 free throws. The Eagle lead was 13 entering the final period. The Grizzlies would never recover from the momentum swing of the third and go on to lose their 13th straight game 78-66.

Adams State had a lot of help from the bench tonight, who accounted for 57% of the team's total points. The Grizzlies forced 9 turnovers and turned them into 16 points also. Lejla Hadzialijagic, Cydney McHenry, and Brianna Reyna all went into double figures on the night with 12, 11, and 11 respectively.  DeShea Wilkes and Nicole Broyles-Mortensen came up with 3 steals each on defense. The Eagles also had three players in double digits with Kalli Feddersen leading them all with 19 points.

ASU women's basketball action continues tomorrow at 5:30pm in Plachy Hall against Regis University.
