ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 21st, 2017) --- The Adams State women's basketball team looked to avoid their 14
th straight loss tonight against No. 25 Regis University. While it seemed like the game would be fairly competitive, an unflattering third period was the difference as the Rangers took the game 56-45.
Â
In the early going, things appeared to be evenly matched between the teams.
Lauren McDonald hit a layup a few minutes into the game to put the Grizzlies up by 4. Moments later,
Cydney McHenry hit a jumper to give the team their largest lead of the night with a 10-4 margin. The Rangers would come back when Mary Sigler to put Regis ahead by 1. The Rangers held on to that momentum to take a 1 point lead into the second. The second period was also very competitive with the score tied at 28 at the half.
Â
The third period is where the game changed. In the third, the Grizzlies could not find any offense and got outscored 19-4. Entering the fourth with a 15 point deficit, Adams found a way to outscore the Rangers 13-9. Despite the effort, the Ranger's created enough space in the third to come away with the 56-45 win. The loss equals Adam's longest losing streak from last season. Â
Â
Once again, the Grizzlies took advantage of their opponent's turnovers which accounted for 13 ASU's points. Adams actually shot a little better than their opponents tonight, shooting 38% from the field compared to Regis's 32.7%.
