WBB| Colorado Mines Downs Grizzlies As Woes Continue

GOLDEN, Colo. (January 28th, 2017) --- The Adams State women's basketball team's struggles continued as the team took to the road for a matchup against Colorado Mines on Saturday night. The trip ultimately resulted in the Grizzlies' 15th straight loss coming from a 93-64 win for the Orediggers.

On a night when Colorado Mines beat Adams State in wrestling and men's basketball, women's basketball would not be spared either. The girls lost control to their opponents early and never recovered from a blowout in the first period.

The Grizzlies were outscored 30-13 in the first, a deficit that would be difficult for any team to overcome. Adams managed to outscore the Orediggers 11-10 in the second period but still found themselves down by 16 at the half. Mines benefited from five 3 pointers in the first half. They were also very good from the free throw line, shooting 93.8%. Adams only managed one 3 point bucket and only connected on 50% from the charity stripe.

Much like the opening period, the Orediggers put on a clinic in the third, outscoring the Grizzlies 34-15. Adams would hold their own in the fourth and outscore their opponents 25-19. The surge was not enough however, as Mines went on to complete a 93-64 rout.

Mines converted on 92.3% of their free throws which led to 24 points. Both teams relied heavily on their bench with 33 Grizzly points coming off the bench and 43 for the Orediggers. Turnovers continued to plague ASU as CSM capitalized on 19 turnovers and turned them into 29 points. Cydney McHenry and Nicole Broyles Mortensen both recorded 12 points on the night while combining for 8 rebounds. Colorado Mines had four girls in double digits points. Cassidy Budge led the way with an astounding 21 points and a solid 4 of 9 from three point land.

The loss drops Adams to 1-17 overall and continues the 15 game losing streak, the longest skid in the recorded history of the team.

The team will head to Pueblo next to take on one of the best teams in all of the country. The ThunderWolves (21-0) are currently ranked at No. 4 in the nation and are poised to move into the top 3 by game time.
