Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB | No. 22 Orediggers Outlast Grizzlies, 75-66

GOLDEN, Colo. (January 28, 2017) – A close back-and-forth matchup did not end in Adams State University's favor as No. 22 Colorado School of Mines walked away with a 75-66 win on Saturday night from Lockridge Arena.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Grizzlies (10-11, 7-8 RMAC) while the Orediggers (18-3, 13-2 RMAC) extend their winning streak to 11. The game featured 10 lead changes and a tied score on 8 occasions.

Adams State held an early lead in the opening minutes which was capped off by a Brandon Pasker jumper for a 7-5 lead with 16:54 remaining before halftime. The lead was short-lived as the Orediggers responded to go back on top just two minutes later. Colorado Mines did not relinquish their lead for the remainder of the half despite the Grizzlies coming back to tie the game twice. Both teams ultimately went into the locker room deadlocked at 31-31 despite Adams State controlling the lead for less than a minute in the first half.

A 6-0 run to begin the second half gave Adams State their largest lead of 37-31. Unfortunately the Grizzlies were in need of a larger run as the Orediggers went on an 8-2 run to knot the game at 39-39. Moving forward the game remained a one possession affair for an extended period of time. The difference came in the final 4:35 as the Orediggers outscored the Grizzlies 16-7. During that span ASU shot 2-of-7 from the free throw line and 2-of-8 from the field. Colorado Mines countered by shooting 9-of-9 from the line and 4-of-4 from the field.

The Grizzlies shot 37.5 percent (24-64) from the field to mark their second lowest shooting performance of the season. Adams State shot 42.9 percent (6-14) from three-point range and 57.1 percent (12-21) from the line.

Brandon Sly posted a team-high 20 points and 4 rebounds. Pasker added 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Bryan Umoru and Shane Johnson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Gokul Natesan led No. 22 Colorado Mines with 24 points.

Adams State is next in action on Feb. 3rd at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
