COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 6th, 2017) --- The Adams State women's basketball team suffered their ninth straight loss tonight in Colorado Springs against UCCS by a score of 81-57.
 
In the early going, Maddy Merschel would hit a jumper to give the Grizzlies a 4-3 lead, this would be their only lead of the game. Adams would keep it close for the remainder of the first period, but trailed 20-14 at the end of one. In the second, the gap would widen to a 13 point Mountain Lion advantage heading into the half. UCCS shot 48.39% from the field in the first half compared to Adams' 38.46 %.
 
Things would only get worse for the Grizzlies in the third period, as they trailed by 19 at one point. The Mountain Lions kept up the intensity in the fourth period as well, outscoring the Grizzlies 26-17. The final result was a 24 point win for the RMAC second place Mountain Lions.
 
UCCS managed 43 points off of the bench and shot a very good 53.4 % from the field. Free throw shooting was a bit sloppy for both teams on the night with the Mountain Lions shooting 70% and the Grizzlies shooting 40%. UCCS also shot 50% from the 3 point line, accounting for 36 points. 
Cydney McHenry and 
Lejla Hadzialijagic both reached double digits on the night with 13 and 11 respectively. Chelsea Pearson led the way for UCCS with 14 points and went a perfect 4-4 from 3 point land.
 
The Grizzlies face Metro State tomorrow in Denver at 5:00pm.
