Alamosa, Colorado. - The Adams State University volleyball team (7-10, 3-4 RMAC) at times seemed poised to upset #22 ranked Colorado School of Mines (14-3, 8-0) tonight at home. It was not to be however as the Orediggers left with a 3-1 win.
The game started with a quick 5-0 Mines lead. Later in the first, the visitors strung out a 7-1 run to increase that lead to 15-6. The Grizzlies would match that with a 7-1 run of their own to pull within three. It would not be enough however as CSM pulled out a 25-19 win. Adams would not let the second set go so easily. Though tightly contested, a 7-1 run near the middle of the second helped ASU push to a 25-18 win heading into intermission. The Grizzlies looked to have some momentum in the third until a 10-3 swing in favor of the Orediggers pushed them ahead. Despite a valiant comeback effort CSM won 25-23. Mines would leave no doubt in the fourth set, winning 25-15 and going home victorious.
Mallory Grimsrud and
Macie Magallon hit the double-digit mark in kills for the second time this weekend with 14 and 11 respectively. Rachel Ringler continues to improve, setting a personal season high with 43 assists. Blocks were key tonight for Adams leading to 21 points.
Shannon Mulkey contributed six of those blocks. The Orediggers were very clutch on serves with nine aces led by LaRose Currie's four.
The Grizzlies continue the home stand, hosting Regis next Friday and Chadron State Saturday.
