LARAMIE – Led by freshman guard Stephanie Ruiz, Adams State University women's basketball team opened season play in an exhibition against the University of Wyoming. The team fell, 47-73, but had a good showing against the Division I opponent on the road.

Ruiz, a guard from Texas, was six of 11 shooting, including three of five from deep to lead the team with 15 points. Joining her in scoring was Nicole Mortensen and Macy Meyers, both of which had seven points.

Defensively, the team had nine steals, led by Ki'asha Harris and Trinity Betoney with a pair of steals each. Mortensen led the battles on the board with eight boards, including five offensive.

A strong fourth quarter was key for the Grizzlies, as the team outscored the Pokes 20-10.

The Grizzlies return home and prepared for Wednesday's matchup with Central Christian College. The game will be Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Plachy Gymnasium.
