MBB| First Two Wins Come In Final Seconds Of Hawaii Weekend Thrillers

Honolulu, Hawaii - The Adams State University men's basketball team (2-4, 0-0 RMAC) won both games at Moanalua high school this weekend by the narrowest of margins against California State Dominguez Hills and Hawaii Pacific University.

Friday's game was an absolute thriller for the small crowd. In a game that had nine lead changes and nine ties, it came down to the final seconds. In a one point game, the Toros hit a jumper with 10 seconds left to take a one point lead. The Grizzlies would keep their composure however as Shane Johnson put in a fast-break layup with two seconds left for the 83-82 win.

The Grizzlies high altitude origin certainly seemed to help as Adams State had 16 fast-break points vs Cal State DH's zero. Brandon Sly led ASU with 23 points, four assists, and three steals. Jarret Givens and Shane Johnson added another 14 points each.

Saturday's contest was equally as tight. Only up by four, the Grizzlies gave up a last second layup to Hawaii Pacific to bring the game within two. The Sharks would then foul Jason Fredrick who would miss the ensuing free throw. HPU could never get off a potential game winning shot however as the Grizzlies held on for the 82-80 win.

Shane Johnson led the way this time with 26 points including going an unbelievable 6-6 from three point land. Brandon Sly was also amazing as he came up with a triple-double, posting 18 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds.

Up next is the University of Hawaii in an exhibition game Monday at 7:00PM local time.
