Honolulu, Hawaii - The Adams State University men's basketball team (2-5, 0-0 RMAC) did not let Division I Hawaii (4-1) walk all over them, and at times, threatened to pull the upset in last night's exhibition game. The Warriors managed to escape with the win however 87-77.

The game was neck and neck in the first half, but a Hawaii 6-0 run allowed them to take an eight point lead into the half. Both teams played similarly statistic wise in the first. Adams shot 48% while Hawaii shot 46.7%. The Grizzlies and Warriors both struggled from the charity stripe going 66.7% and 56.3% respectively.

ASU would get the game within one early in the second but could not take a lead. Over the next ten minutes, the Warriors managed to stretch that lead to 14. Adams State would make one last 10-0 push but could not get any closer, losing by 10 to the Division I giant.

Hawaii got a lot of help from their bench scoring 34 of its points from reserves. Mike Thomas led the Grizzlies with 29 points and eight rebounds. Hawaii had five players reach double-digits in points, led by Gibson Johnson's 19. Â

The team now begins RMAC play in Las Vegas, New Mexico at NMHU at 7:00PM on New Year's Day. Â
