Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Adams State University men's basketball team (3-4, 1-0 RMAC) opened up its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule tonight against New Mexico Highlands (5-2, 0-1 RMAC), handing them only their second loss of the season in an 85-82 win.
Â
For a game that was so close, the lead only changed hands three times. The Cowboys would overcome an early Grizzly lead to hold a one point advantage at the half. Highlands would not hold that lead long in the second.
Shane Johnson hit a three to tie the game and a Frederick Jackson layup put Adams State up for good. The Cowboys had an opportunity near the end of the game when they were fouled and hit both free throws to pull within one with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
Brandon Sly would then nail his free throws as well to increase the lead back to three. NMHU threw up a desperation three at the buzzer but it fell short as the Grizzlies held on for the 85-82 win.
Â
Four Grizzlies scored in double-digits led by
Brandon Sly's 20.
Frederick Jackson was solid all around with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Jordan Jones led the Cowboy's five double-digit scorers with 18.

Action continues tomorrow at CSU-Pueblo at 7:30PM. The ThunderWolves lost tonight 69-85 to Fort Lewis. Â Â
