Lakewood, Colorado. - The Adams State University volleyball team (12-13, 8-8 RMAC) got off to a hot start against Colorado Christian (16-9, 13-3 RMAC) but were out matched in the end tonight in four sets.
The RMAC's fourth place team was seemingly caught off guard by the Grizzlies' drive in the first set. ASU went on an 11-1 run midway through the set overcoming a seven point deficit to take an 18-14 lead. The lead would hold, as the Grizzlies won it 25-21. That would be the last taste of a potential upset however, as the Cougars won the next three sets (25-17, 26-24, and 25-22). The Grizzlies did force the third set into an extra point due in part to a pair of kills from
Macie Magallon on a late 3-0 run.
Mallory Grimsrud led either team with 18 kills and eight total blocks.
Katelyn Schwartz threw up an impressive 42 assists to add to her team high of 563.
Gabrielle Timmen added 21 digs on the evening. CCU relied heavily on recently honored RMAC All-Academic Player of the Year Sophia Proano's 15 kills and five block assists.
The Grizzlies close out the regular season at home against CSU-Pueblo next Friday at 7:00PM and Western State next Saturday at 6:00PM. The weekend will feature blackout themed matches as well as some special honors.
