DURANGO - The Adams State University's women's basketball team fell to the No. -16 ranked Fort Lewis College Skyhawks tonight in Durango. In a tough loss, FLC outscored ASU 82 to 47.
It was a slow start for the Grizzlies as the Skyhawks took a 23-7 lead in the first quarter. Fort Lewis continued to dominate the first half and left the court leading Adams State 45-18. The Grizzlies came out strong in the third quarter; however, lost momentum quickly and only managed to come away with seven points. ASU had their best showing in the fourth quarter, outscoring FLC 22 to 15 points. Unfortunately, despite this increase in energy, the Grizzlies were unable to come away with a win.
Trinity Betoney led the Grizzlies in points with a total of 11. She also recorded one assist and one block in only 16 minutes played. Stephanie Ruiz and Brooke Neal were the second highest scorers for ASU with eight and six, respectively. In addition, Ruiz tallied a couple of blocks and added another steal to her stats. Madison Merschel led the Grizzlies by recorded three blocks each.
With this loss, the Grizzlies fall to 0-5 in the RMAC and 2-5 overall. The ASU women will head to Salt Lake City this Saturday to take on Westminster College.
