WBB | Grizzlies Fall To Cougars in Heartbreaking Loss

ALAMOSA – The women of Adams State University dropped another loss tonight to Colorado Christian University (4-8 overall, 2-5 RMAC). In a tough, well-contested match-up, the Grizzlies only fell short by four points, with a final score of 55-59.

In a relatively slow start for the Grizzlies, the Cougars took a strong lead of 16-9 in the first quarter. This pattern continued in the second quarter with CCU dominating at both ends of the court, adding on 18 points to their lead.

Coming out of halftime, the Grizzlies trailed 36-18; however, this would not dull their fight. Adams State would go on to outscore the Cougars 23-13 in the third. The fourth quarter was nothing short of suspenseful, with ASU continuing to outscore CCU 14-10. Despite their second-half revival, the Grizzlies were unable to come on top with a win in their thrilling comeback.

Stephanie Ruiz controlled tonight's match-up scoring the most points from either team with a career-high 22. In addition to this achievement, she also recorded two steals and one assist on the night. Brooke Neal and Ki'asha Harris were quick to follow with nine and six points, respectively. The two combined for five assists on the night as well.

In their seventh straight loss, the Grizzlies drop to 2-7 overall and 0-7 in the RMAC. In their final contest of 2017, ASU will take on Chadron State College in Plachy Hall at 5:30 PM.
