ALAMOSA – The Adams State University women's basketball team opened its' first home game with a loss against Western State University.
The Grizzlies were leading 34-32 before Western State blew the game open. A 25-4 run earned Western State a 21 point lead, 57-36. Adams State would mount a comeback but would fall to Western State, 53-67.
The first half was tightly contested with Adams State trailing Western by only four at half-time. Brooke Neal led the Grizzlies with 13 points and three rebounds in 37 minutes.
Lejla Hadzialijagic, Macy Meyers, and Ki'asha Harris each contributed ten points to the Grizzlies total.
Nicole Broyles-Mortensen led the Grizzlies with six rebounds in 19 minutes.
Adams State shot just 27 percent from the field and only eight percent from three. Western State shot an outstanding 57 percent from the field but only 55 percent from the free-throw line. Points in the paint hurt Adams State's chances of winning with 50 of Western's 67 points coming from there. The largest lead was 20 points coming from Western State with three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies will be take the court Saturday evening with a 5:30 match up against Colorado Mesa University in Plachy Hall.
