WBB| Skyhawks Soar Past Grizzlies In Durango

ALAMOSA, Colo (February 21st, 2017) --- The Adams State women's basketball team came out flat tonight in Durango against Fort Lewis with an 87-52 loss.

Cydney McHenry hit a three pointer early in the game to put the Grizzlies (2-22) up 3-2. That would be ASU's only lead and as close as it would get for the rest of the night. The Skyhawks (20-6) would take a 30-17 lead into the second. The early portion of the second period went back and forth between both teams. From there however, the Skyhawks would end the half on a 23-2 run. At the half Cydney McHenry led the Grizzlies with nine points. Fort Lewis was led by Kayla Herrera with 14 points and five steals.

The third period took a bit of a slow turn for both teams in a 12-5 battle won by FLC. Entering the fourth quarter with a 36 point deficit, Adams State let it fly. The Grizzlies outscored their opponents 23-22 to end the game. Unfortunately it would not be enough to overcome the deficit as Fort Lewis added their 20th win.

The Grizzlies again forced a respectable 19 turnovers on the night. Cydney McHenry led ASU with 14 points on the night. Nicole Broyles-Mortensen also had a solid night with 13 points and nine rebounds. Alyssa Yocky recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Skyhawks. Adams State was greatly improved from the free throw line going 16-20 on the night.

The team will close out its season Saturday at Westminster College at 5:30pm.
