GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (March 4th, 2017) --- The Adams State women's lacrosse team went to Colorado Mesa University this afternoon in rare non-conference action ultimately losing, 20-3.

Colorado Mesa would waste little time by scoring their first goal in 17 seconds off the stick of Hannah Payton. The team proceeded to add five more goals in the ensuing nine minutes. Leading 6-0, Hannah Payton, Olivia Hayden, and Lindsi Peters had each scored two goals for the Mavericks. Trailing 8-0,
Savannah Penland got Adams State on the board with an unassisted goal with 14:35 remaining in the first half. Mesa would go on to score three more goals before
Jessica Hammer could answer off an assist from
Cynthia Perez. The Mavericks then scored another nine unanswered goals, giving them a 20-2 lead midway through the second half. The final goal came with four minutes remaining from an unassisted goal by
Mireya Castro.

Alexis Wellong led ASU in ground balls with four.
Jessica Hammer also posted three draw controls. A total of 10 Mavericks scored goals led by Lindsi Peters' five. Mesa had 24 shots on goal to Adams' four. The ground ball battle was a little closer but still went CMU's way 17-13.

The team will continue their long road trip at Regis on Saturday, March 18
