WLAX| Tough Pair Of Weekend Games Wrap Up Road Schedule For The Season

ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 10th, 2017) --- The Adams State women's lacrosse team ventured out for a pair of games this past weekend at Fort Lewis and CSU-Pueblo. Both foes got the better end of the result however as they won 15-2 and 15-3 respectively.  
 
On Friday, the Grizzlies (1-10) traveled to Durango for an afternoon clash with the Skyhawks (5-5). The home team would open up the game on a 3-0 run over the first eight minutes to give them the early lead. Hannah King would get things going for Adams State after an assist from Savannah Penland. This was King's team-high 11th goal of the year. The Skyhawks would then put together a long, 11-0 run that lasted until there were only four minutes left in the game. Jessica Hammer would end the drought for the Grizzlies with her 10th goal of the season off an assist from Hannah King. Fort Lewis would score once more with only seconds remaining to give the Skyhawks a 15-2 win at home.
 
Hannah King had a solid day for ASU. Along with her goal, she had one assist, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and one draw control. Alyse Mims also made her presence known with four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and 12 saves. Jessica Hammer had three draw controls, and two ground balls to go with her late goal. Nikki Fry led the Skyhawks with three goals, one assist, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Mims out-saved both Fort Lewis goalies 12-3. As a team, the Grizzlies forced 11 turnovers, collected 20 ground balls, and won six draw controls.
 
Sunday's game at CSU-Pueblo (3-7) had a very similar game flow to Friday's. Alix Zierden led the ThunderWolves to a 2-0 lead. Cera Cyester would cut that down to one with her goal with 16:36 remaining in the half. A 9-0 CSUP run would ensue, giving them an 11-1 advantage early in the second half. Refusing to stay down, the Grizzlies would go on a 2-0 run by way of Hannah King and Cera Cyester, who scored within two minutes of each other. That would be the last ASU surge however, as the Thunderwolves scored four more on the way to a 15-3 win.
 
The goals by Cera Cyester and Hannah King put their season totals at 12 each to jointly lead the team in that category. Alexis Wellong had a good afternoon with two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a draw control. Jessica Hammer continues to be great with her two ground balls, one caused turnover, and three draw controls. Taylor Christensen had five goals, three ground balls, and two draw controls for CSU-Pueblo. At goalie, Alyse Mims out performed her counterpart 9-3 in saves.
 
"We are excited to spend the rest of our season at home." Head coach, Angelica Gero says.
 
The team will begin their four remaining home games this Saturday at noon against UCCS.
