LONG BEACH, California (April 16, 2017) – Adams State University Track & Field concluded its highly successful week in California at Saturday's Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State University.

Adams State athletes posted six provisional national qualifying marks throughout the meet.

In the men's 1500m race, Sydney Gidabuday ran 3:48.58 to earn second place, Kale Adams ran 3:51.18 for eighth, and Chandler Reid ran 3:51.80 to take 11th overall in a field of 122 runners. Times for Gidabuday and Adams serve as provisional marks in the event. Also in the event were Jackson Sayler (3:55.35), Joshua Joseph (4:03.28), and Jackson Roberts (4:10.82). Malena Grover ran in the women's 1500m, running 4:36.23.

Competing in the women's 800m, Roisin Flanagan and Leanne Allen came away with provisional qualifiers, running 2:10.57 and 2:11.37, respectively. Cari Steen ran 2:16.37 in the event.

Adams State senior, and 2016 Olympian, Sunayna Wahi ran a provisional qualifier in the women's 100m dash. Her time of 11.65 is a collegiate best and currently ranks sixth amongst NCAA Division II student-athletes.

Another provisional qualifying mark came from Jessica Scherrer in the women's 400m hurdles. Scherrer's mark of 59.49 was her second time finishing the 400m hurdles in under 60 seconds this week. Her Saturday feat was good enough for second overall in the event.

ASU was represented in the men's 800m by Tom Gifford (1:52.80), Richard Powell (1:53.25), and Austin Anaya (1:53.83). Multi-event athlete Serena Canegan had a busy day, in which she competed in the high jump (1.65m), 100m hurdles (14.99), and 200m (25.49). Wyatt Cunningham competed in the men's high jump for the second time this week, clearing 2.00m. Kiana Gomez ran the women's 100m hurdles (14.78), and Augie Larranaga ran the men's 200m (22.64). Larranaga also competed in the men's 400m, clocking a time of 50.04.

Over the course of the busy weekend in California, the Grizzlies amassed a total of nine marks now ranking in the top 10 of their respective event at the NCAA DII level.

The Grizzlies are back in action on April 22nd at the West Texas A&M Quad Meet in Canyon, Texas.
