Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WLAX| Seven Grizzlies Score In An 18-10 Loss To The ThunderWolves

ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 22nd, 2017) --- The Adams State women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day this afternoon at the ASU Lacrosse fields. The game was evenly matched in the first half but the ThunderWolves pulled away in the second for an 18-10 win.

An early goal by CSU-Pueblo (5-8, 3-5 RMAC) was quickly countered by Mireya Castro to tie things up. The ThunderWolves added another goal two minutes later to push them ahead. Savannah Penland, Cera Cyester, and Sarah Cousins then helped Adams State (2-12, 1-7 RMAC) go on a 3-0 run to give them a 4-2 lead. CSUP followed the trend by putting together a 4-0 run of their own. Not to be outdone, the Grizzlies would score another three unanswered goals. The run gave ASU their first lead in nearly seven minutes. Unfortunately, this would be the last lead that they would hold as the ThunderWolves ended the first half on a 5-0 run to take an 11-7 halftime lead.

Cera Cyester scored back to back goals in the opening minutes of the second half to get Adams within three. CSU-Pueblo put the nail in the coffin with a 6-1 run to close out the game with an eight point win. The lone Grizzly to score on that run was Libby Weeks, her first goal of the season.

Seniors Azeb Giday, Angela Gallegos, Samantha Teti, Marisa Juarez, and Sarah Cousins combined for two goals, seven ground balls, and two draw controls. Jessica Hammer had a well-rounded game with one goal, one assist, two ground balls, and three draw controls. Cera "Big Red" Cyester also added three goals. The ThunderWolves were led by Leah Neumann's five goals.

The game was very physical, drawing eight total yellow cards and three girls being disqualified from the game.

Head coach Angelica Gero had this to say about the game, "I was really proud of how well we played today for our seniors. We played together and ran hard for 60 minutes. A lot of things are coming together for us now, and we are going to keep taking strides forward even after our season ends."

The team will host its final game next Friday at 3:00PM against Fort Lewis.
