CANYON, Texas (May 14, 2017) – On Sunday, Adams State University entered eight student-athletes to compete at the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet and exited with 11 provisional marks and one automatic qualifying time.
Dianna Johnson earned a NCAA Division II auto time in the 200m dash final by crossing the line in 23.44. The feat now ranks second amongst NCAA DII student-athletes. She added a runner-up finish in the 100m dash with a provisional time of 11.54.
Provisional times came for Leanne Allen and Oweneika Watson as well. Allen notched a win in the 800m run final at 2:11.88 while Watson's mark of 13.80 in the 100m hurdles was also a winning time. Watson's mark on Sunday moved her to 21st nationally in the event.
The ASU men's efforts were highlighted by sprinters Ian Kerr and Micah Ballantyne. Kerr took the 200m dash final crown with a time of 20.92 and added a fifth place mark of 10.51 in the 100m dash final. Ballantyne claimed second in the 200m dash final at 21.14 and posted a 100m dash preliminary time of 10.36. The aforementioned duo earned a provisional time in each event they ran. Kerr now ranks 13th in the 200m and 32nd in the 100m. Ballantyne's 100m mark moves him to ninth place at the national level while his 200m mark is 26th.
Sam Reid represented the Grizzlies in the field with a second place provisional mark of 49.70m in the discus. Reid now ranks 40th in the event amongst NCAA DII student-athletes.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Augie Larranaga, Kerr, Elijah Brown, and Ballantyne finished fourth in 40.69. The time is a provisional and ranks 23rd nationally.
Individually, Larranaga took fourth in the 400m run at 49.96.
Next up for Adams State is the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. on May 25-27. Participants of the meet will be announced on www.ncaa.com on Tuesday, May 16.
