Grand Junction, Colorado. - The Adams State University volleyball team (6-8, 2-3 RMAC) pushed Colorado Mesa (10-3, 4-1 RMAC) to the limit tonight in a 2-3 loss in Grand Junction.
The Mavericks dominated the first set jumping out to a 16-7 lead on their way to a 25-13 win. The second set was a lot closer but again went to CMU 25-18. The Grizzlies would come out of the intermission with a mission. Late in the third, Adams State held a 24-21 lead and managed to hold off the comeback for a 25-23 win. ASU then took the fourth set by a score of 25-21 to set up a deciding fifth set. The fifth went back and forth for most of the set until the Mavericks scored its final four points unanswered for the win.
Mallory Grimsrud and
Hannah Goddard each had 12 kills on the night and combined for four total blocks. Rachel Ringler came back from injury to add 34 assists and five digs. Mackenzie Edwards had a dominant 28 kills and Samantha Ritter added 47 assists for Mesa.
The team will now travel to Western State for tomorrow's 6:00PM showdown. The Mountaineers lost at home tonight to Fort Lewis 0-3.
