WBB | Bench Play Sends Hardrockers Past Grizzlies

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Adams State University women's basketball team fell to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Friday evening by a score of 72-58. Adams looks to recover quickly, as the team takes on Black Hills State University tomorrow evening in Spearfish, S.D.

The Grizzlies owned a lead early in the first quarter, but after surrendering it late in the first the Hardrockers ran away with it in the second. An 11-5 run was the nail in the coffin, building on the four point first quarter lead. The teams would trade blows, and the Grizzlies would make a fourth quarter run to bring the game down to three points, but could never tie it up.

Lejla Hadzialijagic led all scorers with 16 points, while Stephanie Ruiz and Nicole B. Mortensen scored 11 apiece. Brooke Neal chipped in 10 points, while no other Grizzlies scored more than three points.

Defensively, Neal led the team with seven boards, while Mortensen had six and Hadzialijagic had five. Ruiz and Harris each added four boards.

Bench play was the difference, as the Adams State bench contributed just seven points and the South Dakota bench contributed 31. The other key difference was points off of turnovers, as the Hardrocker's had a dozen more points off of turnovers.
