Rapid City, South Dakota - The Adams State University men's basketball team (9-8, 7-4 RMAC) have won the first of two games in South Dakota tonight against South Dakota Mines (6-9, 3-7 RMAC) by a final score of 80-70.

Neither team could hold a substantial lead in the first half until
Mike Thomas hit a jumper midway through to give the Grizzlies a 22-15 advantage. A late jumper by
Brandon Sly would give Adams the largest lead of the game at 13. The Grizzlies would take the half 39-28. The Hardrockers persevered early in the second pulling within two points after a Logan Elers layup with 14:16 remaining. S.D. Mines would never get any closer as the Grizz earned its ninth win of the year.

ASU dominated offensively in the paint with 38 points coming from down low.
Brandon Sly and
Shane Johnson combined for 40 points (20 each), five assists, and four steals.
Frederick Jackson,
Mike Thomas, and
Jarrett Givens also reached double-digits in scoring with Thomas adding seven rebounds to lead either team. Logan Elers led the Rockers with 20 points and two assists.

The team will continue play in South Dakota tomorrow against a tough Black Hills State team at 6:00PM. The Yellow Jackets scored a big upset over No. 21 Fort Lewis tonight 67-64. Â Â
