Spearfish, South Dakota - The Adams State University men's basketball team (9-9, 7-5 RMAC) fell just short tonight of upsetting Black Hills State University (10-5, 7-4 RMAC) that had themselves, just pulled off an upset over No. 21 Fort Lewis yesterday. The 65-67 loss leaves the Grizzlies at .500 once again but still respectable in conference currently in seventh place.
Â
Fresh off a 67-64 win over No. 21 Fort Lewis less than 24 hours prior, the Grizzlies came in unintimidated by the home team. Though Adams State found themselves in an eight point hole early, a pair of three pointers from
Shane Johnson and
Jarrett Givens pulled the game within two. Black Hills would run most of the first half from there until the Grizzlies ended the half on an incredible 16-3 run to go into halftime only down by two.
Â
The momentum would continue in the second half as the Grizzlies finally took the lead with 14:04 left when Givens hit a clutch three. They would hold the lead for nearly eight minutes before the Yellow Jackets took it back. It would remain close for the rest of the game but the home team would never give it up. Though
Brandon Sly had a three point foul situation at the end of the game, the Grizzlies needed four and it was not to be.
Â
Shane Johnson led the team with 17 points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists.
Jarrett Givens also had a good outing with 11 points and seven rebounds while going 3/3 from downtown. Fraser Malcolm led the Jackets with 25 points.
Â
The team remains on the road next weekend against Chadron State and Regis. Â Â Â Â Â
