DENVER – The women of Adams State University (4-12 overall, 2-12 RMAC) fell to a hot Regis University team (9-8 overall, 8-4 RMAC) tonight to close out their weekend trip. In a toughly contested match-up, the Grizzlies dropped another loss to the Rangers with a final score of 49-69.
It was a slow start for the Grizzlies as quick turnovers and missed shots turned into a 19-11 Ranger lead in the first quarter. The second quarter maintained a similar pattern; however, Adams held Regis to only a five-point gain.
Coming out of halftime, the Grizzlies trailed 19-32 to the Rangers. Fortunately, this deficit lit a fire for the team; however, Regis' capitalization on turnovers and ability to hit shots would be the end for Adams. In the final half, the Rangers finalized their win with a 69-49 score on the board.
Despite the loss,
Stephanie Ruiz led both teams in total points with 17. In addition, she tallied four boards, one assist, two blocks, and two steals.
Brooke Neal and
Lejla Hadzialijagic closely followed with ten and six points, respectively. They also combined for four assists, two blocks, and six steals.
The Grizzlies return to Alamosa next Saturday to take on the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. The match-up is set to kick-off at 5:30 PM.
