ALAMOSA – The women Grizzlies of Adams State University (3-7 overall, 1-7 RMAC) lost their first game of the 2018 season tonight to the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (2-10 overall, 2-5 RMAC). Despite the tough match-up, the women lost with a final score of 52-60.
After a somewhat point-for-point first quarter, the Grizzlies entered the second only trailing three points. As baskets began to fall for the Mountain Lions, UCCS led ASU 39-30 heading into the half.
Coming out of the locker room, the Grizzlies were only able to put up nine points on the scoreboard in the third quarter; however, with incredible defensive efforts, ASU held UCCS to a mere eight points in the same time frame.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Grizzlies and Mountain Lions went point-for-point again, scoring on both ends of the court. Although they both managed to add 13 points to their total tally, UCCS's early lead secured their win on the night.
Despite the loss,
Stephanie Ruiz recorded another 20-point match, adding an additional two assists and one steal.
Brooke Neal followed closely with 11 points, three assists, and one block. On the defensive end,
Ki'asha Harris tallied an impressive four steals and one block.
The Grizzlies will look to take on the Roadrunners of Metro State University – Denver tomorrow night in Plachy Hall. Their final match of the weekend will kick-off at 5:30 PM.
